I remember it was such a big deal that the Raiders moved to Las Vegas but something that never made sense to me is that they didn't change their name. It would have been better to actually make them themed for Vegas, right? Does anyone know why they kept the same name?
Teams have changed names when they moved cities but not always the case. In the case of the Raiders, it is a franchise that has a very long history and great value as a football brand. The city is pretty happy that the Raiders made the move and you can easily find a jersey for sale in the casino giftshops. I saw a nice section dedicated to the Raiders in the Mirage gift shop. The Harrahs Casino has a dedicated Raiders bar with televisions.
I think this is because their name is too well known at this point. They have one of the largest fanbases worldwide and it makes sense to keep the name as part of a general tourist attraction for people out of state and out of the country.
Alot of history, but still not a very good team 🙂 *I am a Rams fan myself*
Because the Raiders name has an established history, so it'd be kind of crazy to change the name at this point. Plus the name is cool, why change it if it works?
One of my favorite spots to grab a drink is the Raiders Bar at Harrahs. It would be a tragedy if it was called the Cowboys or Patriots Bar.
