I was looking into my cheaper options for hotel stays in Las Vegas and one that popped up was the Ellis Island Hotel Super 8. I was reading older reviews and people were raving about the place. Clean rooms, great service, top-notch security but as of this year, a lot of complaints were people saying they didn't feel safe, especially at night. So now I am not so sure this is a good deal or not. Anyone stay here recently?
Safety could be an issue. In addition, Ellis Island is off the strip. You might consider some of the south end of the strip casinos such as Excalibur, Luxor, or Tropicana. Many of the hotels are offering very low room rates, however, they tack on a more expensive resort fee.
Never stayed at the hotel but the restaurant in the casino has a really affordable (and good) steak dinner afterhours

Oh, maybe that is the issue then? It is not on the strip so it feels less safe/busy at night? I will check out your recommendations. I want to avoid places like this that get too many mixed reviews!
