Apparently, this was the place to go in the 80s and 90s but it seems to not get such raving reviews. I know this was the place my parent stayed in when they went and this was the late 90s and they loved it. What changed? Is this a spot where mostly older folks go or something?

The Trop has changed owners several times.  There was a very expensive renovation project about 12 years ago, but that did not really get guests in the door.  Competition has been tough with new Casinos and shows opening along the strip.  The North end of the strip with the Wynn, Venetian, and now Resorts World has been able to capture alot of the vacationers that the South end (MGM, Luxor, Tropicana, Mandalay Bay, etc) once enjoyed.

They had a lot of slip-ups. I remember there were a few lawsuits floating around in the mid-2000s as well. They ended up bleeding a lot of money through renovations as Tox mentioned which did not help either. It is not a place I would recommend anymore personally.
